7th Annual Plant Sciences Chili Cook-Off!!
On Friday, November 18th, 2011, the departments of Horticulture, Plant Biology, Plant Breeding and Genetics, Crop and Soil Sciences and Plant Pathology, came together to battle for the "Best Chili" among the departments! The competition was based on three categories: 1) Meat, 2) Vegetarian, and 3) Wild Card. Students, Faculty and Staff were invited to participate, with the final count including 24 entrants. In attendance were approximately 100-150 "chili samplers".
In preparation for the event, committee members worked tirelessly to entice entrants, acquire raffle donations, and prepare for the festivities! Members included:
Amanda Sims and Katie King- Horticulture
John Orlowski- Crop and Soil Science
Monica Carvalho and Sam Leiboff- Plant Science
Liz Brauer- Plant Pathology
Kelly Swarts and Jaci Benson- Plant Breeding
In the end Plant breeding was able to hold on to their First Place status in the "Wild Card" category. Winners are as follows:
Derek, Lori, Niko and Matt, Horticulture, Vegetarian, Veggie Vengeance Chili
Ellen and Jay, Plant Pathology and PMB, Meat, Dreaming Chili Verde
Michelle, Plant Breeding, Wild Card, Sugar and Spice and Everything Nice!
